Cold Weather Riding Gear
Winter Riding Gear
Riding in Michigan during the cold, dark and nasty winter months doesn't have to suck, in fact it can be a total blast - if you have the right gear.
Dressing for the weather is takes special thought, and the right clothing can make or break your ride. Clothing should be wicking (not cotton), using base layers, then a midweight jersey and the right jacket. The Cannondale Morphis Jacket is our favorite outer layer because the sleeves and back come off quickly so you can modulate your temperature. To keep your lower body toasty, wear bib shorts as they keep the draft out, highly wind resistant tights, along with wool socks and booties to keep your feet warm and dry. For those of us who have trouble keeping our fingers warm no matter what we do, lobster gloves are a great choice. For extreme cold, Bar Mitt's can be mounted on the bike to provide additional wind resistance. Top it all off with a helmet friendly winter hat or balaclava.
